As much as I appreciate Beyoncé and her talent, I’ve always been one to say that she has a habit, whether or not it’s on purpose, of overshadowing other people. From announcing performances at the last minute (and making them more than 15 minutes long) to trying to get a Grammy nomination in just about every category possible this year, she inserts herself into everything. And while I initially had that familiar “Here we go…” thought when I heard she tried to submit her Lemonade track “Daddy Lessons” for consideration in the country categories only to be rejected, I had a change of heart.
Why exactly isn’t it country?
It’s a serious question. The song is perhaps one of my favorites from the celebrated album, even if other people I know say they skip the track when it comes on because it’s “too country.” I love the hand claps, the horns in the beginning (little known fact: I used to play the trombone), and of course, the acoustic guitar that comes in when the beat drops. It’s an ode to her beloved Texas roots, and in my opinion, pretty country — with or without the Dixie Chicks. (Another little known fact: My mother’s entire side of the family was born in and still lives all over Texas).
Victoria’s Secret Fires Manager Who Kicked Black Women Out Of The Store
Yesterday, we reported about Kimberly Houzah who recorded an emotional Facebook Live video detailing a racist incident in a VS store in Oxford, Alabama. Houzah and another Black woman were put out of the store after another Black woman was caught stealing. The manager at the store didn’t search the ladies’ bags and she didn’t give a reason for asking them to leave. It was clearly racially motivated.
