SZA fans have been waiting for the follow-up to her 2014 album Z, and it looks like they’ll get what they’re looking for in 2017.
In a video posted to his Instagram page, Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith is shown walking into the label’s office. He then arrives at his desk, where a notepad has “2017 Releases” written at the top of the page.
Tiffith’s caption to the video: “It’s time to work on my 2017 release schedule… @sza are u ready 2 get them off my head?”
TDE had a banner year in 2016, with releases from Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Isaiah Rashad, new signee Lance Skiiiwalker and Ab-Soul. But SZA’s career has seemed to be on the backburner. Despite some shows and guest appearances, her album itself hasn’t dropped.
In October, SZA tweeted, “I actually quit. @iampunch can still release my album if he ever feels like it.” Weeks later, Tiffith tweeted to fans, “kan we finish soul & sza projects b4 we release them? I want em out just like u do.”
If this Instagram post is any indication, it appears that SZA and the TDE brass are on the same page for the new year.
