A year after two members of the iconic hardcore punk band Bad Brains suffered health setbacks — one in particular is cementing his and the group’s legacy with an authorized biography. Paul “HR” Hudson, better known as Joseph I, was / is suffering from a rare type of headache called SUNCT for which there is no known cure or reliable medical relief. So, it seems the best way to attempt to combat against the “suicide syndrome” was to put his thoughts and feelings into a book.
Titled Finding Joseph I, the autobiography is an oral history of HR’s life and legacy. Featuring interviews with family, friends, bandmates, and “those he has influenced and inspired” (see: Living Colour, Black Flag + dead prez) — this extensive look at the man who most say helped pioneer hardcore punk music contains many rare and never-before-seen images and stories. We’re ecstatic to be one of the first destinations online to have pages from Finding Joseph I for you all to check out.
The book can be pre-ordered now, but we suggest that you check out these few excerpts below before heading to the checkout.
