Donald J. Trump, the human dumpster fire, has been on a tear lately. After suggesting that gun rights advocates should “enact their Second Amendment rights” on Hillary Clinton, the Republican presidential candidate took aim at President Barack Obama on Wednesday, accusing him of creating the Islamic State (ISIS / ISIL) and saying that the terrorist group “honors” him.
“In many respects, you know, they honor President Obama,” Trump told a raucous and rowdy crowd in Florida on Wednesday night. “He’s the founder of ISIS. He’s the founder of ISIS. He’s the founder. He founded ISIS.” Adding to the insane rhetoric, Trump said, “I would say the co-founder would be crooked Hillary Clinton.” Trump played dog whistler through riffing on the current crisis in Crimea, plus adding extra emphasis on the president’s full name, saying that the incident occurred “during the administration of Barack Hussein Obama.”
Trump’s escalation in criticizing the Obama Administration comes as his polling amongst Americans have lessened in favor of Hillary Clinton. His suggestion that the president was “honored” by ISIS recalls an earlier controversy when Mr. Trump seemingly implied that the president had some connection to the terrorist massacre of 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
“He doesn’t get it, or he gets it better than anybody understands,” Trump told Fox News back in June. The use of the president’s middle name last night brought back the moments when Trump was questioning President Barack Obama’s U.S. citizenship and Christian faith.
Trump has made some questionable comments and statements during his run for the White House, enough that he should leave the country once we get past the November elections. His cavalier attitude and commentary may end up getting someone irreparably hurt, which might be what he want, but Trump should surely watch what he says.
