The verdict’s in: Childish Gambino‘s new album “Awaken, My Love!” is commanding all of the ears. And now it’s officially Dr. Funkenstein-approved. In a recent interview with HipHopDX, George Clinton, praised Gambino’s latest outing, claiming:
“It sounded like a cross between P-Funk and Prince influence. I’m proud that he’s into the funk and glad him and others are bringing some new funk back.”
As has been the case with all of his mucial outings, critical reception to Bino’s new album has been a mixed bag, but at least The Mothership is on his side. Clinton is also keeping busy this year and next, readying a new Big Pharma-inspired Funkadelic record with Flying Lotus and Thundercat for his Brainfeeder debut, as well as lending a hand to FlyLo in his recent cinematic pursuits. No date on the new Funkadelic record has been announced just yet, but if you’re itching for more Funkadelic in your life, hold out for their 2017 Mardis Gras tour, the dates for which are listed below.
