President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama Cover “PEOPLE”
The President and First Lady are currently covering the latest issue of PEOPLE magazine.
The first couple is bidding adieu to the White House in a spread that includes words of encouragement from POTUS in the wake of the election.
“It doesn’t negate the progress that’s been made,” said the Pres about the disturbing election results.
“I’m somebody who never believes the hype when things are going good and doesn’t despair when things don’t work out your way,” the president tells PEOPLE. “The truth of the matter is that when I got elected, there was still racism and misogyny and, you know, anti-gay sentiment in America.”
“In the wake of this election, those elements are still there, but it doesn’t negate all the progress that’s been made,” he continues. “It just means that elements of our culture get amplified sometimes.”
Michelle also revealed what she did on Election Night—went to bed.
“I went to bed. I don’t like to watch the political discourse; I never have,” Obama tells PEOPLE, adding of her husband, “I barely did with him.”
Can you blame her???
