Pay close attention to the very last track on the latest installment of DJ Jazzy Jeff & Mick‘s consistently-magical seasonal mix and you’ll hear something reminiscent of a classic, but slightly revamped. That’s right, if you scroll down to the bottom of yesterday’s post you’ll notice that Summertime Volume 7 is capped off with an oddly familiar tune by De La Soul and Ebony Joi, aptly-titled “Time For The Summer,” which takes the bones of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s 1991 smash “Summertime” and swings it heavily into the 21st century with the assistance of UK beatsman, Eric Lau.
A few weeks back, we heard Jeff and Lau’s update to the summer anthem, only this time around, it features Plugs 1 and 2 rocking rhythmically over the illustrious beat construction. For those of you who may have missed it, catch up in the player below. Those of you holding on for De La Soul’s crowdfunded record And The Anonymous Nobody, this should serve as a proper warm-up as we count down to the album’s August 26th release. You can jump back to hear the latest from The Daisy Age trio or read up on their Stakes Is High reflections in celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary.
