Have to kick myself missing out on the chance to premiere Chris McClenney‘s “Otherside” to you avid listeners of dope tuneage. It seems that my inbox is a wild black hole full of appetizing songs and styles from new artists. Either way, this track from the Soulection affiliate and producer on D.R.A.M.‘s Big Baby D.R.A.M. album did make its way to my ears, and I have to say that it is definitely repeat-worthy.
Fresh from the Maryland-NYC based act’s forthcoming, Portrait In Two EP, “Headlines” sounds like something that would fit right in the pocket of a fun house party or a pre-New Year’s Eve jam. For the two-steppers and smooth dancers, Chris McClenney’s melodious, Caribbean-tinged track will have those on the East Coast wishing for summer days, while those on the West (and warmer parts of the country) might just use this cut for their end-of-year festivities.
Showcasing his talents as a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Chris McClenney joins a growing legion of artist who can do it all and then some.
He spoke on the inspiration to “Headlines” below:
“Headlines float on your twitter timeline and beg for your attention. Click on enough, and you realize many are misleading. The social media presence of some are headlines themselves. The tune ‘Headlines’ is about being an involuntary member of this culture, and confronting the affects it has on the mind. The struggle to be a free-thinker in our society. The upbeat groove of the track is purposefully ironic, considering the serious nature of the topic. When you question what’s going on around you, sometimes you still move through the motions until you’re free.”
Listen to the track below, and keep an ear out for his solo effort, which will be released on all digital marketplaces January 13. Also, peep the flyer as for those in New York City can meet and hang with Chris at his release party at the legendary Blue Note jazz club. Tickets can be copped here.
