A$AP Mob Artist Debuted Line Of T-Shirts, Hoodies & Hats At First Fancy.com Pop-Up Shop In NYC
A$AP Ferg said his tour food per diem had a lot to do with getting his new clothing linem “Traplord,” off the ground.
“I was getting about $30 a day for lunch, and I really was on a ramen noodle diet,” the straight-talking Harlemite told BOSSIP. “I picked up the trade of silk screening, and I knew how to do everything in that world, so when I (saved) $200, I sent it to my girl, and she kind of made it happen with silk screening the t-shirts. She sent me my first batch, I went on the road and was selling them. The kids were loving them.”
The rapper spoke to BOSSIP at the fancy.com pop-up shop Dec. 7, where he launched his “Traplord” clothing line for the first time in a brick and mortar shop.
The pop-up shop and performance space in New York City’s meatpacking district also featured emerging brands like Oxosi, a platform for African designers, and where Kanye West’s Grammy-nominated producer Mike Dean debuted his clothing line, M.W.A, which has one shirt with President-elect Donald Trump’s now infamous phrase “Grab Them By The P***y” in the font that West used in his “Life of Pablo” merchandise.
Spotted at the private preview were Trey Songz, model and DJ Chantel Jeffries and music exec Kevin Liles. Camron later surprised guests with an impromptu performance.
Traplord, named for the A$AP Mob member’s first album, features t-shirts, hats and sweatshirts priced from $25 to $65. There’s even a “Traplord” rug for sale for $315. Ferg said he designs all of the clothes and has developed a cult following among his fans as well as people in the skateboard and BMX bike scene.
“Traplord can represent any kid that’s striving to elevate themselves out of the trap,” the rapper said. “The trap being stagnant, being in a box. The kid who wants to fight to be out of that box, I represent that.”
The Fancy.com pop-up shop is open from Dec. 8 through Dec. 11.
