Today marks the 10th anniversary of Lupe Fiasco‘s debut studio album Food & Liquor. Yes, it’s been that long and yes, you are really that old. But just in case you forgot about the Chicago rapper’s inaugural offering, he’s offered a little refresher in the form of guided audio tour of the album and the creative process that brought it into the world. Lupe recounts Jay Z’s input as executive producer, the Akira-inspired artwork for the album and how fortunate he was to work with such an exceptional group of creatives, including The Neptunes, Jill Scott, Kanye West and more.
He also delves into the album’s leak, which forced him to record and release almost an entirely new piece just months before it was to land on shelves (yes, shelves; this is 2006, after all.) You can hear it all down below, just be sure not to sleep on your boy. If all goes according to plan, he’ll release not one, not two, but three new albums from Lupe Fiasco by year’s end. If that sounds like a tall order, it most certainly is. But we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
