7 years ago we lost a legend in Michael Jackson. Today we celebrate what would have been the iconic vocalist and performer’s 58th birthday, tragically, without him. But one of the best ways to remember the man and the decades of timeless music he’s left us with has year-after-year proven to be Mister Cee‘s consistently-brilliant birthday mix.
This past weekend Spike Lee and Sway Calloway hosted a Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson block party in Bed-Stuy’s historic Stuyvesant Heights district with music from DJ Spinna though celebrations like it were surely held around the globe in the legend’s honor, toasting to a singular talent and everlasting glow. Hear Tame Impala and Theophilus London‘s rework of “Stranger In Moscow” for evidence of his still-prominent influence on contemporary music, regardless of genre. We can also look forward to Tavis Smiley and J.J. Abrams‘ forthcoming television series on Jackson’s final days, based on Smiley’s recently-published Before You Judge Me: The Triumph And Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days (available to purchase on Amazon today.)
Hit play and put this into your weekly rotation. MJ deserves nothing less.
