Rep. Steve Scalise Has Two Black Cops To Thank For Saving His Life
House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise was critically wounded Wednesday in a shooting that might have put an end to his life, were it not for two black Capitol police officers… who ironically share very different politics from the Republican. U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan named Capitol Police officers David Bailey and Crystal Griner as being involved in the shooting on Wednesday. Both were hospitalized after defending Scalise and other Republicans who were at a Congressional baseball practice when they were fired on. Scalise is not known for being particularly kind toward blacks (he’s been called a white supremacist by some) and is against same-sex marriage so it’s especially ironic that his life was saved by Bailey and Griner.
Here’s a few posts we’ve spotted around social media on the incident:
According to News & Observer reports
Bailey graduated from NCCU in 2007, the school confirmed on Wednesday. He earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education and was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and a member of student government.
Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa said during a Wednesday afternoon news conference that neither Bailey nor Griner suffered a life-threatening injury, and that Bailey was treated and released.
Prayers up for both Bailey and Griner! We’re so glad their injuries were not more serious. Is it too much to hope that Scalise sees the irony in all this and makes a change in his politics?
