The last year in Nina Simone related news has been strictly non-musical, if that makes any sense. Three film projects, the Emmy-winning What’s Happening Miss Simone? documentary, the damned-if-you-did-damned-if-you-didn’t Zoe Saldana-starring biopic treatment Nina and another doc The Amazing Nina Simone, have dominated headlines.
Thankfully today’s headline is more for your ears than your eyes, as seven of the legend’s mid-sixties classics are set to be released in their newly-remastered forms. Earlier in the year a box set collection of Phillips Records output was released, containing the albums Nina Simone in Concert (1964), Broadway-Blues-Ballads (1964), I Put a Spell on You (1965), Pastel Blues (1966), Let It All Out (1966), Wild is The Wind (1966) and High Priestess of Soul (1967.) Next Friday, September 30th, each album will see individual vinyl reissues on heavy 180 gram wax, some of them for the first time since their initial release.
So if you’ve been looking to extend what is hopefully an already hefty Nina Simone collection, here’s your shot. You can also peruse The Shop‘s selection for other non-Simone classics that will surely feed your hunger for wax-encased grooves.
